Kia Michel, M.D.
Dr. Kia Michel is a renowned and highly sought after urologist in Los Angeles, and his expertise is sought after by patients both nationally and internationally. Dr. Michel is one of the few urologists who is both an acclaimed cancer and robotic surgeon. Dr. Michel is a compassionate urologist who has dedicated his career to providing state of the art care for his patients with a warm and nurturing touch. Dr. Michel has an illustrious educational path. Dr. Michel was a Presidential Scholar for four years at Whitman College. He subsequently attended the University of Washington School of Medicine, where he graduated with Honors. After completing his medical training, Dr. Michel was recruited by UCLA Department of Urology where he completed his residency. While at UCLA, Dr. Michel was recognized as a national Pfizer Scholar. After completing his residency, Dr. Michel completed additional training and developed further expertise in urologic cancer surgery. During this time, Dr. Michel was actively involved with research in the field of Urologic Cancers. His efforts have been recognized by the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Health, and the American Urological Association.

Robert S. Sanford, M.D.
Dr. Sanford graduated from Brooklyn College and New York Medical College. He interned at Cedars Sinai Medical Center (Cedars of Lebanon) Los Angeles and did his general surgery residency and urological residency at Jewish Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Sanford has been in the private practice of Urology since 1971. In 2003, he founded the Comprehensive Urology Medical Group with Dr. Kiarash Michel.
Dr. Sanford is a clinical assistant Professor of Urology at USC (University of Southern California.) He has served in many hospital positions, including Chairman of the Medical Education Committee at Cedars Sinai for 4 years and Chief of Urology at Cedars Sinai for 4 years. He was chief of staff at Westside Hospital Los Angeles. He has a special interest in urological workers’ compensation.
Dino T. DeConcini, M.D.
Dino performed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts and Science in 1987 and a Masters Degree in Biology in 1988. In 1986 he was a microbiology researcher at the Institut Pasteur and Scholar in the Paris Program with the department of French and Italian. He then received his medical degree from Columbia University P&S in 1992 also receiving grants for study in Mexico and the Paris University Hospitals.
Surgical training and Specialty urology were completed at Baylor College of Medicine at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. Under the guidance of Dr Peter T Scardino (Now Chief of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering), Dino was trained in techniques for open and endoscopic surgery.
The vast array of clinical material included Oncology, Stone disease, Trauma and Reconstruction, Congenital conditions, Infectious diseases, Pediatric urology, Fertility and Female Urologic problems.
In 1998 he moved to private practice in Los Angeles and began teaching residents at the LA County hospital as part of the USC urologic faculty. He also maintains a practice in Santa Monica since 2000 and has served at Chief of the Division of Urology at Cedars Sinai Medical Center from 2008-1010. He now specializes in Hospital and Out-Patient Urology with special attention to office imaging and minimally invasive techniques.
Languages include Spanish, French and sadly, not enough Italian. On a personal note, he very much enjoys living in southern California with his wife and two children. Latest accomplishments include teaching the children to swim, ride bicycles, snorkel and surf in the ocean, but they still can’t make a decent cup of coffee or read a map. Perhaps all things in time…
Arash Akhavein, M.D.
Dr. Arash Akhavein graduated from medical school at Tehran Azad Medical University in Tehran, Iran, where he was among the top in his class. He also aced the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE). Dr. Akhavein moved to Boston, MA, in 2008 and worked as a research fellow in Molecular Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, followed by clinical urology research at Massachusetts General Hospital (both major teaching hospitals for Harvard Medical School).
Dr. Akhavein was always drawn to treating incontinence and the urology specialty throughout his time in medical school. Subsequently, he completed a urology residency at University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, from 2010 to 2015. During residency, he continued his research with a focus on kidney stones and presented abstracts at the American Urological Association (AUA) meetings. Dr. Akhavein received a best abstract award at the 2013 annual meeting in San Diego, CA, for his research in stone disease.
After completion of his urology residency, Dr. Akhavein underwent one year of fellowship subspecialty training in advanced endourology and stone disease at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio under Dr. Manoj Monga (an international authority on endourology and stone disease and current secretary of the AUA). This allowed him to fine tune his minimally invasive endoscopic skills and become familiar with today’s most advanced treatments for incontinence.
Languages that Dr. Akhavein speaks include English and Farsi (Persian). He has relatives and friends in Southern California and has spent almost all of his vacations in SoCal, finally deciding to live and work here. Besides urology and treating patients, things that Dr. Akhavein is passionate about include serious music (classical, jazz, fusion and rock), preferably played through audiophile equipment, cinema and film festivals, gourmet cooking, and hiking in nature.
